Ingredients (for 4 servings)

  • 4 aples
  • water
  • pinch of cinnamon
  • pinch of salt
  • clove (optional)

Directions

  1. Wash, quarter and core apples.
  2. Pour some hot water into saucepan.
  3. Put clove or some cinnamon in water.
  4. Place vegetable steamer into saucepan.
  5. Put apples on steamer peel down.
  6. Sprinkle few grains of salt onto apples. If you like cinnamon, sprinkle apples with some cinnamon.
  7. Use lid, bring water to boil and steam for approx. 15 minutes.
  8. You can make it into a fancy dessert if you pour carob sauce over it and sprinkle almonds or roasted shredded coconut on top.

Practical

  • May be served hot or cold.
  • It is and ideal snack for children.
  • Steamed apples are much sweeter than raw apples. They are also easier to digest.
  • Take off the peel for small children. It will come off easily once apples have been steamed.

Modifications

  • Other types of fruit may be steamed. It is surprising how the sweet taste intensifies and how nice the smell is.
